How to apply press-on nails for a clean, secure fit
Share
A good press-on manicure starts before the adhesive touches your nails. The goal is a clean, dry surface and a size that sits comfortably from sidewall to sidewall.
1. Match every nail before application
Lay out all ten sizes first. Choose the size that covers the natural nail without pressing into the skin. If you are between sizes, select the slightly larger tip and gently file the side edge.
2. Prep the natural nail
Wash and dry your hands, push back the cuticle area, lightly buff surface shine, and remove dust and oil. Avoid lotion immediately before application.
3. Choose tabs or glue
Adhesive tabs suit shorter wear and easier changes. Nail glue generally provides a stronger hold. Follow the instructions included with the adhesive you use.
4. Apply with steady pressure
Align the press-on near the cuticle without touching skin, lower it toward the free edge, and press firmly. Avoid water and heavy hand use immediately after application.
5. Finish the shape
Once secure, lightly file the free edge if needed. Do not aggressively reshape decorated edges.
